3:2 Expository

~I found this vocabulary word when I read for our homework in the textbook called, "Teaching Reading in the Content Areas: If Not Me, Then Who?" written by Rachel Billmeyer, Ph.D. & Mary Lee Barton, M. Ed. Section 1. Page 4.

~", which has shown that students who are taught how to write and edit different forms of expository text improve..."
I can't wrap my head around what this word really means.
Dictionary.com Definition: Descriptive

~I have heard this word used extensively throughout my college career but I haven't really understood the true meaning of it or the context its used in.

~I believe this is a word that should most definitely be part of my everyday vocabulary since it is so commonly used (at least in my degree program) and it has something to do with the subjects I have been studying.

~I do believe that others in my field and similar fields should know this word as well because it is relevant.

  1. Jessica, this will be a hard word for students to "learn well for the vocab test" if you did not include a definition from the readings.

  2. It is critical that you go back to the text to find additional use of this word to infer a definition that would be appropriate as well as go back to Dictionary.com -- so you can transcribe the definition this resource provides as well as the part of speech the term denotes:

    ex·pos·i·to·ry   [ik-spoz-i-tawr-ee, -tohr-ee] adjective
of the nature of exposition; serving to expound, set forth, or explain: an expository essay; expository writing.
